What is the number of translated words and how is it calculated?

1. What is the total number of translated words?

Your word count represents the total number of words translated by Weglot. You can see it on your Weglot Dashboard:

It depends on:
  • The number of words you have in your original language
  • The number of translated languages you are managing
For instance, if your English website has 8,000 words and you translated it into 3 languages (French, German, and Arabic), you will have 3 x 8,000 = 24,000 translated words.
Note that this number is not related to your website traffic.

2. What type of content is taken into account?

This word count includes both visible and invisible content such as SEO metadata of your website that is essential for SEO purposes (meta title, description, image alt attributes)

Note that media translations or external links that you manually add to your Translations list do not increase your word count. It means that content such as images, videos, PDFs, and/or URLs are not increasing your total number of translated words
All words which have been translated, at least one time, are taken into account.
Finally, Weglot does not delete your translations, they are also kept in your Translation List unless you delete them manually.

3. How is it calculated?

Weglot does not translate your website instantly when you install the app.
Translations are generated and added progressively to your Translation List when someone (visitors, you, or search engines such as Google bots) visits your website in the translated language.
